The restaurant's decor was inviting, with bright colours on the walls, and solid, light-coloured furniture with clean lines. The walls were covered with pictures of Poland, with one entire wall boasting of a large outline map of Poland - different regions were marked with the help of corresponding postcards.
They sent pictures of what they tried out, along with names and details of the dishes. They even sent a picture of the menu.
The Menu |
Clockwise from bottom left: De Voille, Golabki, and Perogies |
The De Voille (bottom left in the picture) is beaten chicken breast that has been stuffed with herb butter, then rolled and deep fried. Needless to say, nothing can go wrong with these words - butter, chicken, deep fried. De Voille is definitely something to be tried.
The Golabki (upper left in the picture) is basically cabbage stuffed with meat and rice and served in a tomato base.
The bottom right of the picture has perogies, the main representative of Polish food the world over, these ones are with mushroom and sauerkraut.
Zurek |
The Zurek is a hearty rye soup filled with smoked sausage, potatoes and boiled eggs, all this goodness served inside a crusty bread bowl. Sigh, I love soups in bread bowls. Just so warm and inviting.
Hunter Stew Bigos |
The hunter's stew called Bigos, is as its name suggests, is a hearty meaty stew, with sauerkraut, simmered slowly into rich goodness and served with Polish bread.
Thank you, 'Brethren for Butter' for this wonderful review and pictures.
Delightful. What lucid description of "simbly" good food.
